‘Wise men’ predict flat German growth

Germany is not doing enough to stave off an economic slump, a group of government advisers will warn on Wednesday, in a downbeat report that predicts zero growth and a rise in unemployment next year.

The annual report by the council of “wise men” – five academics who advise the cabinet on economic policy – is more pessimistic than the government’s own estimate of 0.2 per cent gross domestic product growth for 2009.
