Utilities favoured amid mixed results

Utilities found favour on Tuesday as corporate results proved a mixed bag, leaving the FTSE 100 struggling for direction.

Centrica was among the top performers, with the shares gaining 1.2 per cent to 245½p after UBS tipped the British Gas owner as defensive against falling energy prices.
