Obama steps up pressure on health reform

President Barack Obama called for Congress to “buck up” and pass healthcare reform as proposals advanced in the past two days were met with Republican attacks and a lukewarm response from moderate Democrats.

Senators might have to delay their holiday plans to continue drafting the legislation after the planned August 3 recess, Kent Conrad, a Democratic senator, and Henry Waxman, a Democratic representative, said on Wednesday.
