Labour rebels in ‘ceasefire’ with Brown

Gordon Brown’s most bitter Labour critics are planning a “ceasefire” during the party conference, starting in Manchester on Saturday, amid claims by some ministers that it would be better to delay any coup until next summer.

The British prime minister is certain to face criticism during the annual gathering, but hardcore rebels admit that it would be self-destructive to mount a frontal assault when the City is reeling from the global financial crisis.
