Chen Shui-bian, former Taiwan president, was being treated in hospital on Monday after six days without food as part of a hunger strike to protest against his arrest on corruption charges.
Mr Chen has been under arrest since Tuesday on allegations of corruption, money laundering and forging documents while in office. The former president, who stepped down in May after eight years in government, denies the charges, saying his detention is politically motivated by the now ruling Kuomintang party.
