Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesia’s president, on Monday met cabinet ministers, business leaders, economists and media chiefs in an unprecedented effort to bolster confidence in the economy as the stock market tumbled 10 per cent, its biggest one-day fall.
The rupiah weakened to its lowest level in two years, despite central bank intervention, to 9,590 to the US dollar. The government announced that inflation in September was 12.14 per cent, year on year, and 0.97 per cent month on month.
