CBS launches advertising-supported music site

CBS yesterday took up the challenge of trying to build a profitable business out of advertising-supported music on the internet with the launch of its refurbished Last.FM service.

Last.FM is a musicoriented social networking site that CBS acquired last May. The London-based site built an audience by recommending music to visitors based on their preferences and offered 30-second samples from various tracks.
