Brazil’s real hits 4 ½ year high

The Brazilian real, Norwegian krone and Indonesian rupiah all made strong gains on Thursday as frontline currencies strayed little from their current ranges.

The US dollar did manage some modest gains, firming 0.3 per cent to $1.1748 against the euro, 0.3 per cent to Y117.55 against the yen and 0.2 per cent to $1.7395 against sterling.
