Anti-Castro politicians fight thawing of relations

Cuban-American politicians who have greatly influenced US policy towards the island for almost 50 years were on Tuesday fighting a rearguard action, as the Organisation of American States discussed readmitting Havana and Barack Obama’s administration moved to bolster ties.

Perhaps the biggest test will be in the US Congress, long a stronghold of anti-Castro opinion. In coming months it is to consider an initiative to scrap all restrictions on US citizens travelling to Cuba.
