EU agrees to slash 'roaming' charges

The cost of international mobile phone use in the European Union is poised to plummet after member states yesterday backed a law to cut "roaming" charges from August.

The agreement to force reductions in the price of making and receiving phone calls while abroad would hit big operators such as Vodafone of the UK, FranceTelecom and Spanish group Telefónica.
