Gateway unveils offer to buy Packard Bell

Gateway, the US personal computer maker, has made a “binding offer” to acquire Packard Bell, Europe’s third-biggest PC company.

The deal, just weeks after Gateway agreed to be bought by Acer, a Taiwanese rival, for $710m, would keep Packard Bell out of the hands of Lenovo, Acer’s Chinese rival.
