This year marks the 30th anniversary of the anti-establishment rioting of 1968. So I was excited when a demonstration materialised outside a Birmingham restaurant where I was dining with contacts.

What a disappointment! The demonstrators were not protesting at global capitalism but at the consumption of foie gras. This seemed a modest target, pitiful though the plight of force-fed geese may be.
