Boost for tax service points to crackdown on evasion

In a budget that proposes cuts in most domestic programmes, a bumper increase for America's tax service may seem politically courageous.

The White House is asking Congress for a $450m (£239m, €348m) funding increase for the Internal Revenue Service to $10.7bn - the strongest sign yet that the most aggressively anti-tax administration in modern US history is also ready to become among the most aggressive in tax enforcement.
