Microsoft dips 5% despite sales increase

Microsoft said its sales benefited from a strong PC market in its fourth quarter but its shares dropped more than 5 per cent as profits fell short of expectations and its outlook also disappointed.

The world's biggest software maker said it had recorded its fastest annual revenue growth since 1999 as sales hit $60bn, 18 per cent higher than its fiscal 2007 number.
