Seoul seeks to allay US fears over trade deal

South Korea's trade minister has urged the incoming US administration not to ditch a controversial trade agreement described by Barack Obama, president-elect, as "badly flawed".

In an interview with the Financial Times, Kim Jong-hoon said he was confident the deal would soon be ratified by the South Korean parliament, in spite of frenzied opposition including a pitched battle between MPs armed with fire extinguishers and a sledgehammer.
