Safeway gift card arm boosts sales

Safeway, the US supermarket group, on Thursday said it expected sales of gift and stored-value cards by its Blackhawk Network subsidiary to reach $20bn in 2012, driven by growth in the US and internationally.

Don Kingsborough, chief executive of Blackhawk, said the company had reached its target of contributing about $100m to Safeway’s pre-tax earnings.
