ECB signals rate increase in March

Eurozone interest rates look set to rise again next month after the European Central Bank on Thursday signalled another increase in March and left open the possibility of more this year.

Although inflation in the 13-country bloc has stayed within the ECB’s target, Jean-Claude Trichet said the bank would exercise “strong vigilance” – a phrase used to signal interest rate increases a month in advance.
