Hamas is increasing the pressure on the kidnappers of Alan Johnston, the missing BBC correspondent, and has arrested several members of the group calling itself the Army of Islam, including a senior official, Andrew England reports.

Ahmed al-Madlom, who was a spokesman for the Army of Islam, was detained by Hamas Executive Force members after a gun fight late on Sunday. Several of the militants were also arrested last week.
