Chuck Blahous has experience in dealing with tricky problems. He has a PhD in computational quantum chemistry and spent 10 years as Senate aide, advising on diplomacy and the US pension system.

As the White House staffer charged with leading the Bush administration's effort to reform Social Security, he will need to draw on that experience. The issue is complex and politically divisive.
