Japan: Opportunity knocks for banks with stamina and guile

Japan offers mouth-watering opportunities to private bankers, but they are opportunities that demand hard work, careful study of cultural sensitivities and a strong dose of guile.

The world’s second largest economy has a huge potential market of private banking clients. Estimates of the number of people with investable assets of $1m or more vary from about 500,000 to about 1.3m. UBS, one of the world’s biggest wealth managers, thinks about 250,000 have Y500m or more.
