Billionaire bids £133m for Magpies

After an ousted Thai prime minister, a Russian oligarch and a string of US tycoons, it is the turn of one Britain’s most reclusive billionaire to discover an interest in Premiership football.

Mike Ashley, the sportswear entrepreneur, Wednesday announced a £133.1m cash offer for Newcastle United after agreeing to buy out Sir John Hall, the club’s largest shareholder.
