Israel swaps prisoners for video

Israel released 19 Palestinian female prisoners on Friday as part of a deal with Hamas in which the Jewish state received a video proving that an Israeli soldier abducted by the Islamist group in 2006 is alive.

The exchange was the first major sign of progress in long-running negotiations towards an agreement between Israel and Hamas that could see Staff Sergeant Gilad Shalit swapped for hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
