Brown seeks help to cut energy bills

Gordon Brown has been trying to persuade some of the UK’s biggest retailers and media companies to support a package of new measures that would help customers cut their energy costs.

The prime minister’s bid to enlist big-name companies is part of Downing Street’s efforts to add sparkle to his £1bn energy package, which has already been dismissed by some Labour MPs and supporters as inadequate.
