More flu infections point to second wave

Officials are preparing for a fresh surge in flu infections after a sharp rise in doctors’ consultations suggested that a second wave of the H1N1 pandemic was under way.

Data from two networks that monitor patients with flu-like symptoms seeking help from GPs showed a jump of about a third over the previous week’s levels in England and Wales, mirrored by a similar rise in Scotland.
