Single EU tax base planned for companies

Laws to create a single European corporate tax base will be presented within the lifetime of the current European Commission, in a move to cut red tape and help companies operate across borders.

Kaszlo Kovacs, the European Union tax commissioner, expects to table his ideas early next year, and says he will legislate within three or four years before the end of his mandate in 2009.
