China Life in profits gloom

China Life, the world’s largest life assurer, has joined the list of Chinese companies warning of a deteriorating outlook for business, as it projected that 2008 profits would fall by at least half.

“Net profit for the year 2008 may decrease by over 50 per cent as compared to [2007],” the insurer said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange.
