Prisons chief warns of rise in reoffending

Reoffending by ex-prisoners is set to surge because the worsening economic climate is depriving them of jobs, according to the chief inspector of prisons.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Dame Anne Owers said training and securing employment for prisoners – principally in construction, services and retail – were the “single most important factor” in reducing reoffending.
