Starting an English language weekly in Kiev just after the collapse of the Soviet Union with $8,000 and two credit cards is not an obvious recipe for business success, but it has worked for Jed Sunden, who has turned that investment into one of Ukraine’s leading media groups.
KP Media, the company founded by Mr Sunden in 1995, now publishes the country’s principal news weekly, controls its largest internet portal, distributes free daily papers in its largest cities and has a strong presence in women’s magazines. Predicted revenues for last year were $22m and are forecast to grow to $33m this year.
