UK holds firm over Brussels budget rebate

Britain on Wednesday published revised proposals to broker a deal on a seven-year European Union budget, proposing a minor increase to €849bn in overall spending but gave no ground on the UK rebate without an overhaul of farm subsidies.

José Manuel Barroso, Commission president, said it was a modest improvement, but “simply not enough.” He added that it was essential that agreement on the UK rebate be reached on Thursday at the Brussels summit.
