Tony Blair is expected to stand down as Labour MP for Sedgefield on Wednesday to take up his new role of Middle East envoy for the international Quartet in the region.

The representatives – the US, United Nations, Russia and European Union – met in Jerusalem on Tuesday to finalise details of Mr Blair’s appointment.
