Inflation jumps as fall in fuel price slows

Inflation jumped in October as last year’s steep fall in petrol prices dropped out of annual comparisons, ending more than 12 months of declining indices.

The consumer prices index was 1.5 per cent higher last month than a year earlier – up from 1.1 per cent in September.
