Rising chip sales defy industry predictions

Global chip sales rose 6.5 per cent to $109bn in the first six months of 2005 compared with 2004 outstripping earlier predictions of flat sales this year by the Semiconductor Industry Association, the US industry body.

The SIA on Monday reported a slight month-on-month decrease in sales in June, which at $18bn were down 0.5 per cent from May.
