Large companies restricted to ‘Big Four’ for auditing

Britain’s largest companies have little choice when selecting an auditor and could face a loss of investor confidence if one of the “Big Four” accounting firms collapses, a study warns on Wednesday.

The report, commissioned by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Financial Reporting Council, is expected to ignite debate about the dominance of the four and the barriers facing smaller groups seeking to audit bigger companies.
