Appointment of ex-IMF official lifts hopes of end to boycott

Salam Fayyad, the Palestinian official most credited with reforming the Palestinian Authority’s chaotic finances, returns to the cabinet as finance minister, the post he occupied from 2002 to 2005, writes Harvey Morris.

The 55-year-old former International Monetary Fund official was lauded by the international donor community for bringing transparency and improved governance to a fiscal system previously marred by corruption.
