Household spending slowdown takes toll on Carpetright

Profits slumped at Carpetright after homeowners cut back on refurbishment projects, prompting the carpet retailer to slash its dividend by almost 90 per cent.

Pre-tax profit fell 72 per cent from £59.5m to £16.7m in the year to May 2 and the group warned it did not expect conditions to improve for at least 12 months.
