Theatre in Tehran as Iran releases sailors

It was a dramatic performance: a president whose radical rhetoric usually sends shudders around the world presenting himself as the sensitive leader, pardoning the British sailors’ supposed intrusion into Iranian waters and sending them back home for Easter and Passover.

But Wednesday’s well-choreographed speech by Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, the Iranian president, was designed to deliver a diplomatic and propaganda coup for Iran after 13 days of tension with Britain.
