Ratings agencies win insurers’ support

Policymakers should focus on improving the flow of information required to assess complex securities rather than regulating credit agencies, leading insurers said Thursday as they opposed draft proposals from Brussels to supervise the sector.

Ratings agencies have been blamed for contributing to financial turbulence by underestimating the risks attached to the mainly mortgage-related bonds at the heart of the credit crisis.
