Senators direct their fire at US health insurers

The war of words between Democrats and the US insurance industry escalated on Wednesday, a day after the Senate finance committee passed a historic healthcare reform bill.

Democratic senators on the judiciary committee pressed ahead with attempts to overturn a federal antitrust exemption for health insurance and medical malpractice insurance companies, attacking insurers’ “anti-competitive” practices and accusing them of lacking a “moral compass”.
