Tories plan rethink on NHS database

The Conservatives would scrap development of a nationaldatabase of patient records and renegotiate the £5bn-worth of deals to provide the records locally, it was announced yesterday.

Publishing a review of the £12bn NHS IT programme, which is running years behind schedule, Stephen O'Brien, health spokesman, said the Tories would seek to "dismantle Labour's central NHS IT infrastructure".
