King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia waived a flogging sentence on Monday against a female journalist charged as part of a crackdown on a Lebanese television network that caused controversy by broadcasting a programme about a Saudi man’s sexual escapades.

The king also ordered the case dropped against another female journalist on trial in the same case, the information ministry said. Their case will be referred to an information ministry committee, where they could face fines or other action.
