UK court ruling frees up $1bn insurance claims

An estimated $1bn of insurance claims which ground to a halt over a decade ago following a series of legal disputes are now set to be processed and paid out following a UK High Court ruling on Wednesday.

The court ruled that Equitas, the unlisted reinsurance company created to save the Lloyd’s of London insurance market, can now use mathematical modelling to help prove its claims from reinsurance contracts in two cases.
