NEC helps limit Nikkei’s losses

NEC took the spotlight in Tokyo trading on Friday as the stock rallied the most in a year after investors applauded its announcement to issue new equity in a bid to strengthen its balance sheet and invest in “strategic” growth areas.

Shares in the conglomerate, which is planning to raise about Y134bn ($1.5bn), jumped 10.2 per cent to Y273.
