Taliban pose no threat to state, says Karzai

The Afghan president Hamid Karzai yesterday insisted the Taliban posed no threat to his government but admitted the Islamic fundamentalist group remained a menace to the war-torn country.

Mr Karzai made the comments after a summit with George W. Bush, US president, at Camp David, amid mounting concern about the resurgence in the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
