Area noted for its lack of culture

The historic borough of Macclesfield has won a strange and rather unwelcome honour. It is the least cultured place in Britain, according to one measure. The area has the lowest concentration per 1,000 sq km of cinema seats, theatres and libraries in the country, according to research by Local Futures, the geography think-tank. This puts it at the bottom of Local Futures' cultural amenities index. David Turner
