GlaxoSmithKline is to spearhead the development of a £170m biotech science park in an effort to create a life sciences cluster in the east of England that can rival the leading US centres of Boston and North Carolina.
The plan to use the base in Hertfordshire to promote innovative start-ups and commercialise their science more effectively than has been done in the past is the latest sign that the tentacles of the Cambridge technology cluster are spreading further across the region.
