Czechs say they are fighting to protect the EU

The Czech Republic tried to reinvigorate its presidency of the European Union on Wednesday, saying it was determined to uphold EU unity and ensure that member states obeyed the rules on the single market.

“The Czech Republic is not a superpower. The main value-added of our presidency is consensus-building and adherence to the rules of the game,” said Alexandr Vondra, the Czech deputy premier for EU affairs.
