Third parties flock to finance lawsuits

The business of financing lawsuits for profit is seeing an unprecedented boom as investors look to squeeze better returns in a topsy-turvy economic climate.

“Litigation funding” involves inviting third parties, such as banks or hedge funds, to put up the money for a legal claim in exchange for a guaranteed share of compensation awarded.
