Hewitt urged to block NHS software switch

Patricia Hewitt, the health secretary, was asked last night to block a rumoured move by BT to replace its software supplier for the NHS's electronic patient record in the London area.

According to a report by Leerink Swann, the Boston-based healthcare analysts, BT is about to replace GE Healthcare with Cerner, another US company, as the main supplier of the health record for the capital.
