China Eastern Airlines will receive a Rmb3bn ($437m) cash injection from the government as part of a rescue package for the struggling state-dominated Chinese industry, the company said on Wednesday night.
The news came a day after the state regulator issued a directive to domestic carriers to cancel or delay orders of new aircraft next year, a potential blow to manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus, who have placed high hopes on China as a key growth market.
