Clinton urges reform in Kenya

Hillary Clinton, US secretary of state, piled more pressure for reform on Kenya’s floundering coalition government on Wednesday as she visited Nairobi amid signs that relations between the two countries are becoming more strained.

“The absence of strong and effective democratic institutions,” in Kenya, she said, “has permitted ongoing corruption, impunity, politically motivated violence, human rights abuses and a lack of respect for the rule of law”.
